International developers’ competition: Java Masters enters third year

Bangkok--Feb 14--Siemens

For the third year running, Siemens Communications, in cooperation with Sun Microsystems, is holding an international competition for the development of new mobile Java applications. Participants in the Java Masters 2005 face the challenge of designing innovative applications for the following devices: Siemens S65, M65 and CX70 mobile phones. Apart from students, we would also particularly like to invite more companies to submit their proposals this year. The aim of the Java Masters 2005 is to motivate developers around the world to dedicate themselves to programming new mobile applications on the basis of the Java Platform (J2ME). Correspondingly, Siemens Communications and Sun Microsystems will present the much-coveted award in the categories of “Student Java Master” and ”Professional Java Master.” Participants are invited to submit innovative Java programs for the Siemens S65, M65 and CX70 mobile phones. Bluetooth applications based on the JSR82 standard should be at the forefront of considerations for the S65 business mobile. For the M65 outdoor mobile, we are looking for clever ideas in combination with the selection of external accessories (Serial Interface API) as well as for the use of the mobile phone for sports and leisure activities. Participants can let their imagination run wild when developing new 3D applications (JSR184) for the CX70. Siemens Communications and Sun Microsystems will supply participants with the development tools they need. The award will be presented during the Games Convention Developer Conference (GCDC) 16-17 August 2005 in Leipzig. First Prize winners will travel to the award ceremony and will also be able to select from a range of attractive technology-related prizes from Siemens Communications and Sun Microsystems. The Second and Third Prize winners will also receive attractive technology-based prizes. In the “Professional” category, test vouchers for the”Java VerifiedTM Program“of the “Unified Testing Initiative“ can also be won under the ”Unified Testing Initiative.“ Information is available at: http://www.javaverified.com. In 2004, more than 1,000 students from over 100 countries submitted Java programs for the Siemens SX1, MC60 and M55 mobile phones. Permbun Aimsupasit and Panuwat Jantharajhit from Thailand satisfied users to garner First Prize with their “King of Mobile” game. Mr. Christian Onselaere, Executive Vice President and Head of Siemens Communications Group in Thailand says “Siemens is committed to the continuous development of handsets technologies with Java being one of the most important platform for the development of applications for mobile devices. We are very proud that 2 students from Thailand have won the First Prize over more than 1,000 students worldwide last year. This success shows that Thai developers are very creative in revolutionizing mobile communications. We would like to encourage and invite Thai developers to participate in our Java Application Contest. The winners may come from Thailand again this year.” Registration starts from now on at: www.javamasters.org. The jury will be comprised of technology and marketing experts from Siemens Communications and Sun Microsystems. They will evaluate the entries submitted according to quality, appeal, innovation and user-friendliness and will nominate 10 applications respectively for the final selection. The winners will then be decided according to the number of Internet votes received. Whether it is a new mobile game, a restaurant guide or an e-mail client, the application must satisfy the Internet voter in all aspects. The closing date for entries is May 15, 2005. You will find detailed information on the conditions for participation on the Internet at www.javamasters.org Siemens Communications is one of the largest players in the global telecommunications industry.
