SAS CEO visits Bangkok to open new global centre

Bangkok--Mar 7--SAS In connection with the visit to Bangkok of Scandinavian Airlines CEO & President, Mr. Jorgen Lindegaard, we would like to invite you as SAS's guest to attend a joint Scandinavian Chambers of Commerce in Thailand luncheon on Friday, 15 March, 2002 at 12.00 hrs. at The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. Come and listen to SAS President speaking on 'SAS Flying Through Turbulent Times'. 2001 turned out to be the most difficult year the airline industry has ever experienced. A progressively deeper recession became more and more apparent. The terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the subsequent acts of war dramatically added to the decline in demand for air travel. SAS suffered several major setbacks during the year. Most serious was the terrible accident in Milan, Italy, in October where 118 people lost their lives. This event is the biggest disaster in SAS's history, and the company will be saddened for a long time. Also, the illegal market cooperation with the Danish carrier Maersk Air, which resulted in the EU Commission imposing a high fine and in the wake of which SAS's Board chose to resign, subjected SAS to obvious strain. SAS is facing stiff competition and declining results in the coming year. Come and listen to how SAS plans to tackle these and other challenges in the coming years. We look forward to seeing you on 15 March. Please confirm back to us latest 12 March 2002 if you would like to join the luncheon. Please answer mailto:[email protected] or facsimile +66 2260 6269. End. -AN-
