Implementing Cost-Effective Solutions with Management Functionality at the Network Edge
Allied Telesyn, the global provider of secure, end-to-end Ethernet/IP solutions for businesses of all sizes, today announced the release of its Fast Ethernet and Gigabit WebSmart switches - the AT-FS750 and AT-GS950 series.
WebSmart switches bridge the gap between unmanaged and full management functionality. These products have the ability to introduce basic web-based management and security at an affordable price. The web-based management is a system for unified administration of network, systems and software resources. It allows users to manage distributed systems using any web browser. It incorporates a new Common Information Model protocol that defines the objects to be managed. The WebSmart switch can be seen as a fundamentally managed switch designed for simple network configurations.
Allied Telesyn’s WebSmart switch integrates the simplicity of unmanaged switches with the performance and reliability of managed switches to provide a cost-effective solution for users to integrate management at the edge of their network.
The common features of Allied Telesyn’s WebSmart switches include the simple web-based management function such as port based VLANs (up to 64 groups), 802.1p QoS (priority and VLAN topology), port trunking/link aggregation, port mirroring, 4 hardware priority queues, 802.1D spanning tree and 802.1x authentication security support (port-based network access control) and auto MDI/MDIX. MDI/MDIX is the Ethernet port connection using twisted pair cabling to provide the physical and electrical connection between like devices. MDI ports connect to MDIX ports via straight-through twisted pair cabling; both MDI-to-MDI and MDIX-to-MDIX connections use crossover twisted pair cabling.
With support for up to 8K MAC addresses table entries and a 512KB packet buffer, the WebSmart switch is an ideal option for integrating management into the network solution. “Allied Telesyn’s WebSmart switch truly helps companies to get the most value for their dollar. With industry standard protocol, fiber media support via the SFPs and simple plug n play usability right out of the box, it’s the right choice for implementing this cost-effective solution into the network” said Jason Phoon, Allied Telesyn’s Senior Manager for Product Marketing in Asia Pacific.
