ALLIED TELESYN AIMS FOR LARGER SHARE OF GIGABIT LAYER 3 SWITCH MARKET
High-end AT-9900 Series Offers Rich QoS Functionality and Industry-leading Value
Allied Telesyn, the global end-to-end networking solutions vendor, today announced the availability of its AT-9900 series of Gigabit Layer 3 Ethernet switches targeted at organisations that need a network solution that will grow and change with their business needs.
Sophisticated per flow Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities are a key component of the AT-9900’s advanced feature set. These capabilities include dual-rate, fine-granularity bandwidth metering per traffic class; three-color bandwidth conformance class distribution; and pre and post remarking of DSCP, VLAN Tag User Priority, Bandwidth Class, and Egress Queue. These allow the user to intelligently manage network traffic to allow stable and predictable end-to-end network performance. Allied Telesyn’s AT-9900 series switches also support queue shaping with RED or simple tail drop, weighted round robin and strict priority scheduling and egress limiting (64k on 10/100, 640k on 10/100/1000). With eight levels of prioritisation, IT Managers can have optimal control over their network.
Allied Telesyn’s industry-leading QoS boosts network performance and guarantees the delivery of business-critical Ethernet services and applications. For Enterprise and Education customers, the AT-9900 QoS features protect productivity by guaranteeing performance with precise control of Ethernet desktop-based applications such as VoIP services, and help restore and maintain responsiveness of enterprise applications in the networked workplace. Service Providers, on the other hand, can ensure maximum availability of premium voice, video and data services, as well as manage their customers’ Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
“With non-blocking performance, high-density Gigabit Ethernet ports and advanced features, the new AT-9900 series top-of-the-line multilayer switches represent the best value product in the market,” said Jason Phoon, Senior Manager of Product Marketing with Allied Telesyn. “No other Gigabit switch on the market has the same combination of intelligent hardware, sophisticated software and IPv6 capability, making the AT-9900 the logical choice for guaranteeing the delivery of advanced networking services.”
With 48Gbps switch fabric yielding 35.7Mpps performance, the AT-9900 series switches are specially built to meet the needs of high performance network services such as the Service Provider, Government, Enterprise, Education and Healthcare markets. Customers can deliver higher quality voice, video and data services at the metro edge and aggregation layer.
Built-in redundancy guarantees the continued delivery of essential services and the 1RU form factor AT-9900 series switches have internal dual hot-swappable AC or DC load sharing power supplies that eliminate the need for an external Redundant Power Supply (RPS) that occupies valuable rack space. Moreover, the AT-9900’s front-to-back cooling and high operating temperature increase its reliability. Its linear airflow further helps keep the closet’s temperature down by reducing the amount of warm air being re-circulated.
Allied Telesyn’s AT-9900 series switches are ideal for users planning a migration from IPv4 to IPv6. They are IPv6 capable out-of-the-box, and an optional IPv6 accelerator card is also available. Spurred on by the hot IPv6 network market in Europe and Japan, the AT-9900s are set to deliver cutting-edge IPv6 technology as soon as users are ready to adopt the technology into their network. Early adopters can implement IPv6 immediately, while customers who choose not to take up the IPv6 option now can be assured of their investment protection, with the choice to upgrade to IPv6 at a later date.
The AT-9900 series offers 4,096 distinct VLANs (virtual LANs) and VLAN double tagging in addition to 8 service queues per port. These are a bonus for customers that require complex IP networks. For added security, the 9900 series supports 1,024 ACLs (Access Control Lists), which can be bound to Link Aggregation Groups, VLANs or individual ports.
